Book Discussion Club
Meets fourth Tuesday of each month

Perkiomen Valley Library in Schwenksville will hold its monthly book discussion on Tuesday, May 27, at 7:00PM. The book for discussion is “Perfect Match” by Jodi Picoult

From its provocative opening to the astonishing and revelatory finale, this novel enters the raw and private realm of a parent’s heart, and ultimately questions our assumptions about family, security and love.

Please join us in the library auditorium for light refreshments and stimulating conversation.  It is recommended that attendees read the book prior to the discussion.  The book is available to borrow through the library system. For more information or to register, please call 610-287-8360.

 Positive Discipline

The Perkiomen Valley Library at Schwenksville, a branch of MC-NPL, will host Julie Fausz, MA, Director of Bright Horizons at Collegeville on Tuesday, April 29 at 7:00PM in the auditorium of the library.  If you would like some help in dealing with the difficulties of child-rearing, or you simply wonder if there is a more effective way of dealing with a difficult child, please join us for this informative presentation on “Positive Discipline.”  Ms. Fausz will discuss the “whys” of a tantrum, how to deal with a tantrum, and how to reduce the number of tantrums.  She will also address setting limits with children, signs of stress in young children, and how to help children manage stress.  There will be adequate time for questions and answers.

The program will accommodate the whole family.  While the parents attend the workshop, children will be entertained by a library employee, using the “One Book, Every Young Child Traveling Trunk”.  This will include stories and toys related to the wonder of plants, food and gardening.  “One Book, Every Young Child” is Pennsylvania’s annual collaborative project designed to increase awareness among parents, educators and child care givers of the need to promote early literacy development.

This event is FREE and open to the public.  Registration is requested.

The Goshenhoppen Region: Recreation Destination

Many of the villages and towns along the Perkiomen, Swamp/Unami and Hosensack Creeks were popular vacation destinations during the first half of the twentieth century.  Numerous boarding houses, bungalows and cottages as well as resorts and summer camps were built and hosted folk, primarily from nearby cities. Join us on Thursday, May 15 at 7:00PM for an informative slide show, as Mr. Aaron Heckler tells us about the many camps along the Unami Creek and popular places such as Mill-Side Park and the bathing beaches at Spring Mount.
